
Red Raider Golf Headed to Scotland

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech will join seven other schools from across the country in the inaugural International Collegiate Sept. 6-7 at St. Andrews, Scotland. The event is hosted by Simmers Enterprises, a Glasgow-based events management business.
The two-day event will be played at the five-star St. Andrews Bay Golf Resort. The Resort boasts two championship courses, and the tournament will be staged on the Torrance Course, designed and named after current European Ryder Cup Captain Sam Torrance.
"This tournament means a great deal to our program," Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "First and foremost from a recruiting standpoint, we are playing where golf began. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. Scotland is a golfer's heaven.
"We also have the opportunity to compete against other good programs," the third-year head coach added. "Two finished the season ranked among the nation's top 10."
Joining Texas Tech in the field are Wake Forest, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Georgia Southern, Wofford and Akron are all participating. Additionally, five universities from Europe also will be competing - University of St. Andrews, Oxford and Cambridge universities select teams, R&A Bursars select and British Universities select.
Texas Tech is coming off of its best season in 26 years following its first NCAA Championships appearance last spring since 1976.
The International Collegiate is an official tournament of the NCAA.
The Red Raiders will depart for Scotland Sat., Aug. 31, and arrive Sun., Sept. 1. The team will play rounds at Kingsbarns and the Devlin Course prior to competing in the tournament.
