LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior golfer Mark Hull (San Antonio, Texas) and two freshman signees missed the cut at the 102nd U.S. Amateur, but the three players in the event is the most in Red Raider head coach Greg Sands' three years at Tech.
"The U.S. Amateur is composed of the best 300 players in the country and to have three guys representing us makes me feel good about the upcoming season," Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "This is really an accomplishment for our program. Some of the nation's top golf programs are represented with three players in this year's amateur. I am looking forward to this season."
Hull finished 18 shots back with a two-round 153 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich. He posted a 76 on day one and finished this afternoon with a 77. NCAA rules prohibit comment on the two signees until school officially begins.
The Red Raiders begin the 2002-03 season at The Collegian in Scotland September 1-9. Tech is coming off of its best season in years after advancing to the NCAA Championships in May. The appearance for the Red Raiders was the first in 26 years.
