Tech Gets Four Commitments in Men's Golf

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech men's golf head coach Greg Sands announced the signing of three Texas high school players and a European amateur golfer to national letters of intent for the 2002-2003 season.
Jason Louth, ranked 62nd in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, of Victoria, Texas, signs with Tech having placed first in seven local and national tournaments. The Victoria High School senior is a two-time High School MVP, an Honorable Mention High School All-American, an All-State 5A player and a first-place medallist in both the district and regional levels. Louth is a standout in the classroom as well, maintaining an overall grade of 98.6 while being a member of the National Honor Society.
Nationally ranked in the Top 100 Junior Golfers, Andrew Dresser, ranked 97th, of Carrollton, Texas, is a three-time MVP and three-time All-District 6-5A at Creekview High School. His credentials include 2001 first-place district medallist, 2001 semifinalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, 2001 first-place medallist at the Conroe Invitational, 1999 second-place district medallist and a two-time Regional Qualifier. Off the field, Dresser has a 3.872 grade point average and is ranked 56 out of 536 students in the 2001-2002 Creekview High School senior class.
Granbury, Texas, native Casey Jones brings his own competitive edge with two individual titles and a host of amateur experience. The summer proved to be a busy one for the Granbury High School senior finishing tied for second at the AJGA Southwestern in Albuquerque, N.M., tying for sixth at the AJGA Chrysler, winning the qualifier for the USGA Amateur at Oak Hills Country Club and finishing 94th in the Junior Amateur. Playing for Granbury High School, Jones placed third for the second year in a row at the Bart Ganger Memorial and helped capture two team championships. Jones is also a three-year letterman for the Granbury High School basketball team.
The London, Great Britain (UK), native William B.G. Haddrell is a member of the England Under 18 team and is currently competing in the amateur circuit with a plus-two handicap. The 6' 2" graduate of Latymer Upper High School in 2001 earned an overall 4.0 GPA on a 5.0 scale, and scored a 1280 on the SAT. Haddrell brings in numerous amateur experience winning the Southern Counties U18, the Surrey (state) U18 and reaching the fourth round at the England Men's Amateur earlier this year. The 18-year old also won the Faldo Southern Tour, placed third at the SE Championship shooting a course record 66, and was a National Finalist at the Royal Liverpool.
"I'm really excited about the talent we're bringing in," said coach Greg Sands, "We have a great group of golfers athletically as well as academically."
The 2001-2002 Red Raiders began the fall season ranked 11th in the nation and finished a remarkable season claiming two team titles. Competition for a spot on the team will intensify as only two seniors will be graduating next May.
