LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech continued preseason drills Friday afternoon, preparing for its season opener against New Mexico next weekend. The Red Raiders practiced for 2 ? hours on the grass practice field east of the Athletic Training Center.
Head coach Mike Leach described the practice as "up and down", but did say everything is looking good for the opener against the Lobos.
"Everything is shaping up," Leach said. "We're looking good, but we need to practice better than we did today. At times we were real good, at other times we weren't very good. Our drills were a bit slow today."
Leach pointed out wide receiver Jamal Broussard and defensive back Marquis Turner as having good practices.
After breaking practice, the Red Raiders enjoyed barbecue and watermelon on the practice fields before adjourning to group meetings.
The Red Raiders practice Saturday at 9 a.m., instead of the originally scheduled time of 4 p.m. As always, practice is open to the public.
Texas Tech opens the season in the Hispanic College Fund Classic on Sat., Aug. 26 against New Mexico. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Jones SBC Stadium.
