Two Red Raiders Named to Tennis Academic All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team, ranked among the nation's top teams on the court this season, has proven it has a pair of stars in the classroom also. Borut Martincevic and Jevgenij Cariov were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 first team according to a release from the conference office this afternoon.
To be eligible for the first team athletes must have a minnimun 3.20-plus grade point average and be an at least their second-year of academic residence. The athletes must also compete in at least 60 percent of their team's matches.
Cariov a native of Kaunas, Lithuania is a sophomore majoring in marketing. A leader on the court as well, Cariov leads the Red Raiders with 11 wins on the season. Martincevic and Cariov have teamed-up on the courts in doubles action seven times this season, with a record of 5-2 and 2-1 in league play. Martincevic senior from Maribor, Slovenia is majoring in finance. Martincevic is consistently ranked in the top 100 in the ITA poll and is third on the team with nine wins.
Martincevic and Cariov return to action along with their teammates on Friday, April 28 against the University of Texas in the Big 12 Championships.
