Men's Golf Tees Off at Big 12 Championships Monday

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech travels to Hutchinson, Kan., today for the 2000 Big 12 Golf Championships at Prairie Dunes Golf & Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
The par-70, 6,637-yard course will host the Big 12 men for the fourth year. Play begins each day at 8 a.m. with 36 holes on the slate for Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders will look to David Bolen (Austin, Texas) and Mark Hull (San Antonio, Texas) to lead them in the tournament. Hull leads the team with a 74.2 stroke per round average, while Bolen is close behind at 74.7 strokes. Corey Henegar (Austin, Texas) is averaging 76.3 strokes and Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) averages 77.4. Kelly is coming off of his best tournament in his first season as a Red Raider. He finished in a fourth-place tie at the Bearkat Classic in Huntsville, Texas, two weeks ago. Rounding out the Tech five is Trey Pyka (San Antonio, Texas) is averaging 76.8 strokes.
The Big 12 Conference features some of the top men's golf programs in the country with seven teams ranked in the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, highlighted by No. 3 Oklahoma State.
OSU captured the first two Big 12 titles in 1997 and 1998. Kansas is the defending champion after beating Nebraska by two strokes last season.
