LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raider football team continued spring drills on Saturday with an hour-long controlled scrimmage on the grass practice fields southeast of Jones Stadium. Tech opened the first hour of practice with group and position workouts before scrimmaging.
"Our intensity and effort levels today were pretty good, but I'm happiest with our effort," Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach said. "We were spotty in places, but we will come together in time. We've had a good first week of practice."
Quarterbacks Kliff Kingsbury and B.J. Symons saw a bulk of the action behind the line as both combined for 29-of-38 for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Kingsbury went 15-of-21 for 183 yards, while Symons was 14-of-17 for 142 yards and two TD passes.
"I thought Kliff Kingsbury and B.J. Symons both looked good, as well as our receiving corps," Leach said. "Defensively, they let the offense move the ball around too much. However, the defense did move around well."
Redshirt freshman Carlos Francis led all receivers with six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, followed by James Wegener's six grabs for 57 yards. Tight end Cole Roberts tallied five catches for 55 yards and a TD.
Defensively, Harold Wesley and Eric Cooper recorded interceptions.
