LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Track and Field teams completed their weekend action in the Red Raider Classic, held at the Athletic Training Center on the Texas Tech campus, this afternoon and had a pair of NCAA qualifying marks to show for their efforts.
Leigh Daniel finished first in the women's 3,000 meter run in a time of 9:3972 and freshman Michael Beasley won the men's high jump with a height of 2.18 meters(7'-01.75"). Both marks were NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Daniel's qualifying mark came one week after setting an automatic mark in the 5,000 while Beasley's is a new freshman record for the Red Raiders.
"It was a solid meet for us," Tech head coach Wes Kittley said. "We're excited with Michael's mark and Leigh's time, plus we had a couple of new school records that were set. I think all around our athletes performed well."
Ty Williams continued his impressive indoor campaign, once again sweeping the men's weight throw and shot put. Brandon May took first place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.62, a seasonal best. Gez Yosseff broke the school record for the 800 with his time of 1:51.20 and Alex Oliveras took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 14.99 meters(49'02.25").
On the women's side, Tami Zachary won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.06. Bobbi Crill set a new school record in the pole vault with her height of 3.46 meters(11'04.25"). Sipa Finau won the weight throw with a distance of 17.67 meters(57'11.75") and the 4x400 relay team took the top spot with a time of 3:49.09.
The team returns to action next week when they head to Ames, Iowa for the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
