LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Amber Tarr hit five 3-pointers, including three in a row, in a 4 1/2-minute span as No. 11 Texas Tech beat Southeastern Louisiana 94-37 on Tuesday night.
When Tech (7-1) found itself being pushed outside by the Lady Lions' zone defense late in the second half, coach Marsha Sharp brought in Tarr and Natalie Ritchie. Tech had held the Lions (1-7) scoreless for about three minutes when Tarr hit her first 3.
A basket by Southeastern Louisiana's Pendra Lindsey with 11:54 left in the game made it 63-27, but Tarr hit two more 3-pointers before Jia Perkins hit a free throw.
Tarr's 3-pointers quickly extended the lead to 78-27.
With a little over five minutes left to play, the Lady Lions tried to make a little 3-point magic of their own. They attempted three 3-pointers, but didn't hit one.
Overall, Tech hit 8-of-21 3-pointers. Southeastern Louisiana hit 1-of-8.
Southeastern Louisiana committed 30 turnovers and Tech was able to score 40 points off them.
But the Lady Lions were able to shut down Tech leading scorer Plenette Pierson. Pierson, who averages 14.9 points a game, made only one basket. She spent much of the time on the bench because of Southeastern Louisiana's swarming defense.
Tarr's 25 points was a career high. Katrisa O'Neal added another 11, and Candi White and Jia Perkins 10 each.
Keelee Traylor led the Lady Lions with 10 points.
At halftime, Tech led 40-21. The Lady Raiders held the Lady Lions scoreless for six minutes of the first half, allowing Traylor to break the streak with 7:50 to go.
