Women's Volleyball Swept By Undefeated Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Texas Tech volleyball team suffered a three-game loss (2-15, 3-15, 9-15) at the hands of undefeated and top-ranked Nebraska on Wednesday night before 4,283 fans at the Nebraska Coliseum in Lincoln. The crowd was the largest to see the Huskers play at the Nebraksa Coliseum this season.
With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 23-8 on the year and 11-8 in the Big 12 while Nebraska kept its undefeated season alive improving to 27-0 and 19-0 in the Big 12.
The Huskers dominated the first game scoring the first 10 points of the match. Sophomore outside hitter Melissa McGehee got Texas Tech on the board with a kill down the Husker middle-court. Texas Tech managed just one more point in the match before falling 15-2. The Huskers got an impressive seven blocks in the first game with Jenny Kropp leading the team with five block assists. Texas Tech hit ?0.65 in the game while Nebraska hit an impressive .478.
Texas Tech started off the second game with a point to take their first lead of the match. Nebraska answered quickly by rattling off six-straight points before Tech was able to get on the board again with a kill by sophomore Ann Romjue. The Huskers rattled off seven straight points before the Red Raiders were able to get on the board with what turned out to be their final point of the game.
Texas Tech entered the intermission hitting ?0.59 while Nebraska went to the break hitting .400. Ann Romjue paced Texas Tech with four kills and a dig.
Nebraska came out of the lockerroom and opened up the third game with a 7-0 point run. Texas Tech was able to get two straight points to close the deficit to five but the Huskers countered with two points of their own to extend the lead back to seven. Texas Tech fell behind 12-3 before making their biggest rally of the match. Tech scored six straight points to pull within three but Nebraska was able to pull away and win 15-9.
Texas Tech finished the night with a season-low .055 hitting percentage while Nebraska hit .357. Tech was led by Colleen Smith's nine kills and Melissa McGehee's 13 digs.
Texas Tech closes out the regular season on Saturday when the play host to last place Iowa State at 7 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena. Texas Tech will learn of its postseason destination when the NCAA announce the 2000 Division I Women's Volleyball bracket on Sunday night.
