Red Raider Volleyball Falls to Baylor

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders lost a conference match to No. 22 Baylor 3-0 (15-13, 15-13, 15-6) at Coronado High School before a crowd of 228. The loss drops the Red Raiders to 16-14 on the year (5-12 Big 12) while the Bears move to 23-7 (11-6) on the year.
The Red Raiders were led by senior Lori Garber, who notched a team high 15 kills and hit .417 (15-5-24) in the match. Elisha Polk led the way for Baylor with 25 kills and 13 digs.
Despite the loss, the Red Raiders put up a fight in the first two games. Tech blazed out to the lead early in the first game, taking a 4-0 advantage before Baylor called a timeout to stem the tide. Tech remained in the lead for most of the game until Baylor overcame the deficit in the end to take a 15-13 win. Baylor was helped by a .316 hitting percentage (28-10-57). Tech Hit .157( 19-11-51) for the game.
Baylor came out to a quick 6-1 lead in the second game but this time Tech answered the bell to come back and take a 7-6 lead midway through the match. Neither team hit very well in the game. The Bears had their worst hitting performance (.000) as did Tech (-.026). At the end it was Baylor coming out on top 15-13.
Baylor hit a scorching .607 in the final game to put the Red Raiders away. Despite the fact that Tech had their best hitting performance of the three games (.206) the Bears finished things quickly. They led 13-2 at one point. After a short rally by Tech the Bears closed the book with a 15-6 win.
For the night, serving was both a blessing and a curse for Texas Tech. They served up eight aces but also had seven service errors to hurt their cause.
