TEXAS TECH HAS PRODUCED 123 MLB DRAFT/FREE AGENT SELECTIONS
The Texas Tech baseball program began in 1926 and played baseball until 1929 before starting back up in 1954 where it has since played baseball in 58 consecutive seasons. Since 1962, there have been 123 Major League Baseball Draft or free agent selections. There have been 105 draft picks and 18 free agent selections. There have been 42 draft picks/free agents over the last eight seasons, an average of at least five players drafted per season.
BREAKDOWN OF RED RAIDER DRAFT PICKS
Texas Tech has had 105 draft picks since 1969. Overall, there has been at least one Red Raider drafted in 34 MLB Drafts, with 23 drafts containing at least two Texas Tech players. The 2011 MLB Draft saw four Red Raiders drafted and one sign as a free agent, which matches the programs most since having seven draft picks in 2006. It is the second straight year Tech has had five drafted/signed. Six times in the last eight years there have been at least five Texas Tech players drafted/sign as free agents.

CONSISTENCY IN THE DRAFT
There has been at least one Tech player drafted/signed free agent contract in 24 consecutive drafts (1988-2011) and in 29 of the last 30 drafts dating back to 1982. The only draft during the past 30 years where a Tech player was not selected/signed free agent was in 1987. In fact, during the past 24 years there have been multiple Red Raiders drafted/signed free agent deals.
TECH IN ELITE COMPANY AMONG BIG 12 PROGRAMS
Since the first Big 12 baseball season in 1997, Texas Tech is one of only three programs in the conference to have at least one player drafted in the top 14 rounds of the draft every season. The Red Raiders join Oklahoma State and Texas A&M as the only programs that have had a top-14 round pick every year since 1997.
REID REDMAN LOOKS TO BECOME FIFTH RED RAIDER SELECTED IN BACK-TO-BACK MLB DRAFTS
Senior third baseman Reid Redman returned to the Tech program after being drafted in the 37th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. If Redman is selected this year he will become the fifth player in Texas Tech history to be drafted in back-to-back drafts. In addition, one Red Raider, Brandon Roberson, was taken in two drafts during his Tech career (1999, 2001), but the selections weren¡¯t in back-to-back years.

The National League Central (28) is the division that has drafted/signed the most Red Raiders while the hometown Texas Rangers (9) and Kansas City Royals (9) are the organization that have taken the most Tech players. Although neither organization has drafted a Red Raider since 2007 (SS Kyle Martin, 29th round - Kansas City) and the Rangers have drafted only one Tech player (OF Michael Mask, 32nd round - 2004) during the last 19 years. Both clubs have signed Red Raiders to free agent contracts since 2001. The Houston Astros have taken eight Tech players while the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres have drafted/signed seven Texas Tech players.
