Wiedemeyer earns first career victory

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Texas Tech junior Tim Wiedemeyer birdied the final hole of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club to break a tie atop the individual leaderboard and claim his first career victory on Sunday. Wiedemeyer shot a final round 3-under-par 67 and finished the event 6-under-par (204), besting Texas' Matt Comegys and Oklahoma State's Gaven Lane by one stroke for the win.
Â
As a team, No. 19 Texas Tech was in the hunt for the team championship down to the waning moments of the 54-hole event, but could not make the final push it needed and ultimately finished in third place behind No. 10 Florida and tournament champion No. 4 Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders finished 3-under-par (837) for the tournament, three shots off the Cowboys' pace, who recovered from a 10-shot deficit to begin the day.
Â
Wiedemeyer's final round on Sunday was as consistent as his three rounds carded throughout the event — in the 60s. He opened round three with a bogey-free front nine, which included one birdie on the 400-yard Par 4, fourth hole. The back nine was much of the same, finishing 2-under (33) with three birdies against one bogey. Wiedemeyer dipped to 2-under-par for the day after a birdie on No. 10 but fell back to 1-under after a bogey on No. 12. The junior finished 2-under over the final six holes of the event thanks to a birdie on the 576-yard Par 5, 15th hole, and then the clincher on No. 18 as he carded a three on the 498-yard Par 4 finishing hole.Â
Â
The Red Raiders' three additional countable scores on Sunday toward their team round came from Price Hill (69), Connor Graham (72), and Adam Bresnu (73).Â
Â
With a tie for sixth-place overall, Graham earned a career-best finish after a pair of seventh-place finishes as a freshman. The sophomore finished the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational 2-under-par (208), as one of three Red Raiders to claim Top 20 finishes at the event. Bresnu, who opened the weekend in first place behind a first-round 67 (-3) on Friday, dropped into a tie for 19th place. Bresnu and Graham are both 2-for-2 this season in staking claims to Top 20 finishes in each of their events to open the 2025 season, looking back to the Carmel Cup.
Â
It will be a quick turnaround for the Red Raiders as they will be back in action for their third fall event, Sept. 29-30, at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, presented by Charles Schwab, at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
