
McCasland adds Gotcher to coaching staff

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech head men's basketball coach Grant McCasland has announced the hiring of assistant coach Toddrick Gotcher who returns to the Red Raider program after playing nine years of professional basketball overseas. Gotcher holds the Texas Tech record for games played, competing in 136 games as a Red Raider over five seasons where he scored 952 points and made 138 3-pointers.
As a senior, Gotcher led Tech with 10.9 points per game, 62 3-pointers (39.2 percent), 33 steals and to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Gotcher earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in his final season and is the program's only four-time Big 12 All-Academic selection. He arrived in Lubbock as a freshman for the 2011-12 season where he played in nine games before a medical redshirt and would play over 30 games in each of the next four seasons for the Red Raiders with 72 starts. His senior season saw Tech advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
Gotcher begins his coaching career after playing professionally in France, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania and Turkey before finishing his career last season playing in Poland for Gornik Zamek Ksiaz Walbrzych where he averaged 13.0 points and 3.0 assists per game. He began his professional career by playing for ASA Koroivos Amaliadas in Greece where he started 26 games and averaged 12.9 points and 5.8 rebound per game before moving to France to play for Cholet Basket in the France-ProA. He would play three years in Romania before competing in Poland last season.
Gotcher has earned three degrees from Texas Tech University, graduating in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science before earning master's degrees in Sports Management (2015) and Media and Communication (2016). A Garland, Texas native, Gotcher was a two-time all-state selection for Garland Lakeview Centennial High School where he also was a three-time all-district selection and earned MVP honors as a senior. He helped his team to two state finals, a 72-7 overall record as a four-year letterman and finished his senior season averaging 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
The Red Raiders finished last season with a 28-9 overall record, including being second in the Big 12 standings with a 15-5 conference record. Tech matched the program record with a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the program's third Elite 8. The Red Raiders are 51-20 over the past two seasons under McCasland with back-to-back trips to the national tournament.
