
Tech, Duke set for MSG showdown

LUBBOCK – A marquee matchup at Madison Square Garden between Texas Tech and Duke has been officially announced for Saturday, December 20, setting up the third meeting between the two programs. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST) and will be televised on ESPN. The Red Raiders will be playing at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the 11th time in program history, including a previous meeting against the Blue Devils in 2018.
Tickets in the Texas Tech fan allotment will go on sale to Red Raider Club members and Red Raider Basketball season ticket holders via an exclusive pre-sale before being made available to the general public. More information, including pre-sale and public on-sale dates, will be emailed to fans from the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office in the coming weeks.
Duke is 2-0 in the all-time series with the two programs meeting for the first time on December 20, 2018 and the Blue Devils earning a 69-58 win at Madison Square Garden. The second matchup came in the 2022 Sweet 16 in San Francisco on March 24, 2022 with Duke advancing with a 78-73 win.
The Blue Devils are coming off a season where they reached the Final Four for the 18th time in program history, ultimately falling to Houston in the semifinals to finish their season with a 35-4 overall record. Duke went 19-1 to win the ACC regular season title and then knocked off Louisville to win the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils were 2-1 against Big 12 opponents last year in the regular season with wins over UCF and Arizona before a loss to Kansas. In the NCAA Tournament, Duke topped Baylor and Arizona before falling to Houston. Jon Scheyer is entering his fourth season leading the program and is currently 89-22.
The Red Raiders finished last season with a 28-9 overall record, including being second in the Big 12 standings with a 15-5 conference record. Tech matched the program record with a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the program's third Elite 8. The Red Raiders are 51-20 over the past two seasons under head coach Grant McCasland with back-to-back trips to the national tournament. Tech is on two-game winning streak at "The World's Most Famous Arena" with wins over Louisville in 2019 and Tennessee in 2021. The win over Louisville during the Jimmy V Classic was Tech's first win over a No. 1-ranked opponent in program history.
