
Tech announces non-conference home schedule

LUBBOCK – The non-conference home slate for the Texas Tech men's basketball team is set.
The Red Raiders, who are on a 38-game winning streak in non-conference home games, will host seven opponents starting with the season opener on November 4 against Lindenwood to begin the 2025-26 season. Tech will also take on Sam Houston, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Wyoming, Northern Colorado and Winthrop at United Supermarkets Arena before the calendar flips and Big 12 play begins. The non-conference home winning streak includes going 16-0 under head coach Grant McCasland and dates back to the 2019-20 season with a 76-74 overtime loss to Kentucky in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
Along with non-conference home games, the Red Raiders will also host BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and Utah this season in Big 12 games. The conference schedule will be announced at a later date. Previously announced games away from Lubbock include at Illinois on November 11, a trip to the Bahamas to play in the Baha Mar Championship against Wake Forest on November 20 and either Memphis or Purdue on November 21 and a matchup against LSU on December 7 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The full non-conference schedule is expected to be announced soon.
Tuesday, November 4 vs. Lindenwood Lions
The season-opening matchup against Lindenwood will also be the first meeting between the two basketball programs. The Lions, who reclassified to Division I from Division II in 2022, are an Ohio Valley Conference opponent coming off a 16-17 overall record in 2024-25. The program went 10-10 in OVC play and completed its season with a win over Morehead State to open the OVC Championship before falling to Tennessee State in the quarterfinals. The St. Charles, Missouri program is led by head coach Kyle Gerdeman (70-103 through seven seasons) and becomes a full-fledged Division I program this season.
Friday, November 7 vs. Sam Houston Bearkats
Texas Tech and Sam Houston will meet for the 13th time in a matchup that was first played in 1927. The Red Raiders own a 10-2 all-time advantage in the series, most recently earning a 96-60 home win in McCasland's first season leading the program. Tech won the first five meetings, starting with a 26-16 victory on February 9, 1927 in Lubbock. Tech has won the past four matchups after dropping a 56-54 decision back on November 14, 2007 in Huntsville. The Bearkats are coming off a 13-19 record last season, including going 6-12 in Conference USA play. Sam Houston completed its regular season with wins over UTEP and New Mexico State before falling to UTEP in the opening round of the CUSA Championship in Huntsville, Alabama to end its season. The Bearkats are led by head coach Chris Mudge who enters his third season with a 34-31 record.
Friday, November 14 vs. Milwaukee Panthers
Texas Tech and Milwaukee are set to meet for the first time ever with the Red Raiders hosting the Panthers in the third game of the regular season. Milwaukee is coming off a season where it went 21-11 overall and were 14-6 in Horizon League action. The Panthers were 7-8 on the road, including dropping an 84-76 decision at UCF in their only game against a Big 12 opponent last season. The team finished third in the Horizon League standings and had its season end with a loss to Oakland in the conference's tournament quarterfinals. Bart Lundy is entering his fourth season leading the program and is currently 63-38. Over 23 seasons as a head coach, Lundy is 492-228 after 14 seasons at Queens and six at High Point. The Panthers have made four NCAA Tournament appearances with their most recent trip coming in 2014.
Wednesday, November 26 vs. New Orleans Privateers
New Orleans will make its way to Lubbock for the first time since 1989 when the Red Raiders host the Privateers in their fourth home game of the season. The all-time series is tied 1-1 with New Orleans securing a 54-52 win on its home court back on January 11, 1988 before the Red Raiders claimed a 64-48 win on January 14, 1989 in Lubbock. The Privateers are coming off a 4-27 overall record and went 2-18 in Southland Conference play last season. The program is led by head coach Stacy Howell who is entering his first season after working as an assistant coach at Texas Southern last season before eight seasons as the head coach at Loyola (New Orleans) where he won the 2022 NAIA National Championship.
Sunday, November 30 vs. Wyoming Cowboys
Texas Tech will look to even the all-time series against Wyoming and pick up wins over the Cowboys in consecutive seasons after rolling to a 96-49 win last year. Wyoming holds a 7-6 all-time record over Tech with a 67-62 win on December 14, 2002 being the most recent meeting before last season. Tech is 4-2 at home against the Cowboys in a series that began on December 28, 1940 with a neutral-court matchup in Oklahoma City. Wyoming is coming off a 12-20 overall record last season, including going 5-15 in Mountain West play. The Cowboys ended their season on a five-game losing streak, finishing off the 2024-25 campaign with a 66-61 loss to San Jose State in the opening round of the Mountain West Championship. Wyoming is led by head coach Sundance Wicks who is entering his second season after taking over for Texas Tech assistant coach Jeff Linder. The Cowboys have made 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament with its most recent trip in 2022 under Linder. The program won the NCAA Championship in 1943.
Tuesday, December 16 vs. Northern Colorado Bears
The Red Raiders own a 5-0 all-time advantage over Northern Colorado going into the mid-December matchup after earning an 89-64 win at home last season on November 29, 2024. Tech moved to 6-1 on its season last year with JT Toppin recording a double-double while the Bears fell to 6-3. Northern Colorado went on to record a 25-10 overall record, including going 15-3 to clinch a share of the Big Sky regular season championship. The Bears reached the Big Sky title game before falling to Montana and would play in the NIT where their season ended with a loss to UC Irvine. Northern Colorado head coach Steve Smiley is entering his sixth season leading the program and has an 89-71 overall record at the school. The series between Tech and Northern Colorado began with a game on January 4, 1971 and resulted in an 80-56 win for the Red Raiders. Tech has hosted all five matchups in the series. Â
Sunday, December 28 vs. Winthrop Eagles
Tech will play its final non-conference game against an opponent it has never played before when it welcomes Winthrop to United Supermarkets Arena. The Eagles are coming off a season where they went 23-11 overall and 11-5 in Big South play. Winthrop advanced to the Big South Championship title game before having its season end in an 81-69 loss to High Point. The program is led by head coach Mark Prosser who is entering his fifth season with a 78-52 record at the school. He also was the head coach at Brevard and Western Carolina before leading the program in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Winthrop has made 11 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, most recently in 2021 with former Red Raider star Adonis Arms on its roster.
