
Anderson named All-Star Five, McCasland wins World Cup Gold

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland helped lead the USA Basketball Men's U19 National Team to a gold medal and sophomore Christian Anderson earned All-Star Five honors at the FIBA U19 World Cup on Sunday at the Lausanne Arena. Anderson recorded 18 points, nine assists, four steals and five rebounds for Germany in the finals against the USA which claimed a 109-76 win to secure its ninth U19 World Cup championship.
Anderson, who holds dual citizenship, finished the tournament averaging 17.3 points, 6.6 assists and 4.9 rebounds through seven games of competition. His tournament highlights came with a 29-point performance against Canada and having 12 assists against Serbia in the Round of 16 matchup. Germany finished the tournament with a 6-1 record to claim the silver medal – the country's first podium appearance in the U19 World Cup. Anderson was named to the all-tournament team after finishing the event second in assists and 10th overall in scoring.
McCasland, who was an assistant coach for the USA which went 7-0 to claim gold, has led Texas Tech to a 51-20 record over his first two season in Lubbock and was in his second year serving as an assistant coach for the USA. Last summer, McCasland helped Team USA to the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup Championship in Argentina before he led Tech to the 2025 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
Anderson is coming off a freshman season at Texas Tech where he earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors after averaging 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He is listed as the second-best prospect in the tournament on the FIBA website. An Atlanta, Georgia native, Anderson holds dual citizenship with his father originally from Germany. He scored a career-high 22 points in a win over Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and finished the season tied for the team-high with 71 made 3-pointers. In conference play, Anderson averaged 11.4 points and shot 42.2 percent from beyond the arc. Â
