LUBBOCK – Josiah Moseley returned to his home state after playing his freshman season at Villanova, officially signing with the Texas Tech basketball program on April 23. A Round Rock, Texas native, Moseley earned 2023-24 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year honors after averaging 22.8 points and 8.9 rebounds as a senior at Stony Point High School. He played in 30 games at Villanova as a freshman before entering the transfer portal and joining the Red Raiders. We sat down with Moseley after a Summer 1 workout to get to know more about him and his goals for the upcoming season.
What do you bring to the team on and off the court?
"I bring intensity and try to be one of the loudest players on the court at all times. I try to do the all the little things to help our team win. Off the court, I can be shy but also outgoing once I get to know you. I'm real big on camaraderie and supporting my teammates."
What do you want to get most out of summer workouts?
"My goal is to keep getting stronger and better. I've been working with Coach Wright every day to work on my agility and explosiveness to make me an even better player on the court."
Favorite restaurant?
"Chuy's. I've already gone a couple times since I've been in Lubbock."
What do you want to develop the most in your game?
"Being able to play off the ball more. Outside the perimeter and come off screens better."
What do you want your teammates and coaches to say about you?
"That I'm an outstanding guy and teammate. Very hardworking and never takes a day off."
Top three musicians?
"Demarco. Kendrick Lamar. SZA"
How do you impact winning?
"I help by bringing the team together. Doing the little things, diving for loose balls and anything to outwork the other team."
What do you think makes you unique as a person?
"I have the body of a forward but with guard skills. I'm a mismatch problem."
Favorite movie?
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower"
Who is the first person you'd call for advice or to share something good?
"I'd call my brothers. They've helped me out a lot and always believe in me. They help me with everything."
What standard have you set for yourself in your work ethic?
"I set a strict standard. Two workouts a day and always pushing to get better."
Who's a player you see shades of yourself in?
"I grew up watching a lot of Paul George. He's been my favorite player."
What is something off the basketball court that people don't know about you?
"I like to cook. I used to look up random recipes and try it out. Not as much time now with basketball, but I still like to cook when I can."
What do you want to embrace the most about playing at Texas Tech?
"I want to take advantage of this opportunity. We have the best coaches and facilities to set us up to succeed."
