
Anderson, McCasland off to 2-0 start at U19 World Cup

LUBBOCK – Christian Anderson and Grant McCasland are both 2-0 going into the final day of pool play at the 2025 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup.
Anderson is averaging 10.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds for Germany which has opened the tournament with wins over Slovenia and China. He is coming off a game against China early Sunday morning where he had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. The Germans conclude Group B pool play against Canada at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday while McCasland and the United States complete pool play with a 10:15 a.m. game against Cameroon. Serving as an assistant coach for Team USA, McCasland has helped lead the team to wins over Australia and France to begin the tournament.
The U19 World Cup takes place from June 28-July 5 in Lausanne, Switzerland with the 16-team event beginning with three games of pool play before shifting to the knockout stage with the Round of 16 on July 2. The quarterfinals take place on July 4, followed by the semifinals on July 5 and the title game on July 6.

Anderson is coming off a freshman season at Texas Tech where he earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors after averaging 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He is listed as the second-best prospect in the tournament on the FIBA website. An Atlanta, Georgia native, Anderson holds dual citizenship with his father originally from Germany. He scored a career-high 22 points in a win over Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and finished the season tied for the team-high with 71 made 3-pointers. In conference play, Anderson averaged 11.4 points and shot 42.2 percent from beyond the arc. Â
Anderson led Germany to the FIBA U18 EuroBasket Championship last summer in Finland, averaging 20.3 points and 5.0 assists through seven games of the tournament. He earned FIBA U18 EuroBasket All-Tournament Team after going off for 31 points and five assists in a win over Serbia in the championship game after dropping 24 on Slovenia in the semifinals. Anderson also has international experience playing for Germany in the U16 EuroBasket Championship 2022 and the FIBA U18 European Championship 2023.
McCasland has led Texas Tech to a 51-20 record over his first two season in Lubbock and is in his second year serving as an assistant coach for Team USA. Last summer, McCasland helped Team USA to the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup Championship in Argentina before he led Tech to the 2025 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. Earlier this summer, McCasland signed a six-year extension which has him leading the Red Raiders through the 2030-31 season.
