
Big 12 announces opponent matrix

LUBBOCK – Eighteen conference matchups for the Texas Tech men's basketball schedule were revealed on Thursday with the Big 12 announcing its opponent matrix for the 2025-26 season. Each program has a home-and-home with three other conference opponents and plays the other 12 opponents once, with six home games and six on the road for an 18-game Big 12 schedule. Opponents were selected to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness.
TEXAS TECH BIG 12 MATCHUPS
Home-and-Away: BYU, Colorado, Houston
Home-Only: Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Utah
Away-Only: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Iowa State, UCF, West Virginia
The Red Raiders are set to play BYU, Colorado and Houston twice during conference play with home and away games on their schedule. The team will host Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and Utah in their only games against those opponents and will travel to play Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Iowa State, UCF and West Virginia. The conference has gone back to an 18-game conference schedule after playing a 20-game conference schedule last season. Tech finished second in the Big 12 last season, going 15-5 overall including a program-record eight road wins.
Dates, times and television designations will be announced when available. Details on single game and group tickets for home Big 12 games will be released this fall ahead of their on-sale date.
Texas Tech followed up on its 15-5 conference record last season by advancing to the program's third NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. Grant McCasland is entering his third season and currently owns a 51-20 overall record and is 26-12 in Big 12 games.
Big 12 teams led the nation with a 66.7% winning percentage in the 2025 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. Seven Conference teams were selected to the Big Dance, marking the sixth consecutive time at least six Big 12 men's basketball squads were picked for the tournament.
The 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Tournament is set for March 10-14 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. Tech has advanced to the semifinals in both seasons under McCasland. The Red Raiders return JT Toppin who was named the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Year along with Christian Anderson after he earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors last season. Tech has bolstered its roster through the transfer portal with the additions of Tyeree Bryan (Santa Clara), LeJuan Watts (Washington State), Donovan Atwell (UNC Greensboro), Josiah Moseley (Villanova) and Luke Bamgboye (VCU) along with freshman Nolan Groves (Long Lake, Minnesota). The program has previously announced a road matchup against Illinois on November 11 in Champaign with a return matchup in Lubbock against the Illini in 2026.
