LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team has signed Thomas Van Den Dooren to its roster for the fall as announced on Monday afternoon by head coach Michael Breler.
"Coach Wynn and I are very excited to be able to add Thomas to our program this fall. Thomas is coming out of France as a top-ranked player in his age group and has a big powerful game that we think will translate really well at the highest level of college tennis," Coach Breler said. "Thomas impressed us a lot in the recruiting process not just with his tennis and desire to grow as a player but as a person as well and we believe he will fit right into the culture we want to build here at Texas Tech. We cannot wait to get him on campus in August and to see what he can accomplish in the Red Raider uniform."
Van Den Dooren is a native of Thiais, Val-de-Marne, France, who was ranked as high as No. 605 in the ITF junior rankings and trained at Istres Sports Tennis. The future Red Raider has won two ITF junior doubles titles, his first coming at the J30 Abidjan in October 2023. In this tournament, he would defeat three different doubles teams and only dropped one set en route to the title.
Van Den Dooren followed this up with another doubles championship at the J30 Le Pontet in March 2024, where he and his partner took down three more pairs to win the trophy. Once again, he only dropped one set in the competition. Since June 2023, Van Den Dooren has been a doubles semifinalist at ITF tournaments twice and a quarterfinalist three times.
In 2024, Van Den Dooren competed in four 15k tournaments and one 25k tournament – getting a singles win over Dorian Tremblay (ATP 1581, ITF 245) in the first round of qualifying at the Bressuire 15k. In February 2024, the France native advanced to the singles semifinals at J60 Antalya, where he got key wins over Samim Filiz (ITF 278), Aril Kayra Tuna (ITF 286) and Mehmet Onur (ITF 488).
In addition, he was a singles semifinalist at J30 Abidjan (October 2023), J30 Hillegom (July 2023) and at J30 Heiveld (January 2023) where he earned wins over Hidde Schoenmakers (ITF 63) and Varun Verma (ITF 145). In March 2023, Van Den Dooren was a singles finalist at J30 Colomiers after going 7-1 in matches. Advancing out of qualifying with three wins, Van Den Dooren also defeated some of the top players at the competition in Constantin Radu (ITF 356), Kostiantyn Mantach (ITF 240) and Lenny Couturier (ITF 247).
A singles semifinalist at J5 Lyon in 2022, Van Den Dooren has also competed in top tournaments such as J300 Beaulieu-Sur-Mer, J200 Istres and J200 Cao d'ail.
Van Den Dooren will join the Red Raiders as a freshman in August.
