
Pierson breaks women’s shot put record

The sophomore set three new PB marks in today’s competition
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team completed its three-day trip to the 97th annual Texas Relays presented by Truist Saturday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
In the women's shot put, Amori Pierson finished second with a new school record of 17.84m (58-6 ½), breaking Kayli Johnson's 2022 mark of 17.80m (58-4 ¾). The sophomore set three new PB marks in this meet. As of today, her mark would be No. 2 in the NCAA.
McKenzie Davis got the final day started for Tech as she won the women's B discus with a throw of 52.82m (173-3). The first running event of the day was the 4x100 as the men finished second with a time of 39.21. The quartet consisted of Jonathan Crawford, Antoine Andrews, Josh Bour and Kimarlie Stewart.
The women's high jump witnessed Claire Lowrey and Alexis Griffith going second and third, respectively. Both Red Raiders cleared 1.78m (5-10). In the men's 110m hurdles, Antoine Andrews and Sincere Rhea finished second and fourth. Andrews went 13.28, while Rhea came in at 13.48 – both runs were just over the allowable legal wind limit (2.3).
Busola Akinduro opened her season in the triple jump leaping 13.20m (43-3.75) taking fourth overall.
The meet was capped off with the men's 4x400 winning the event in a time of 3:04.52. The team consisted of Carl Hicks, Desean Boyce, George Garcia and Shaemar Uter.
