Anderson added to Cousy Award Watch List

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech sophomore Christian Anderson has been recognized as one of the 20 players for the Naismith Starting 5 - Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List. This prestigious award honors the best point guards in men's college basketball and is presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame, highlighting the elite talent in the sport.
The annual Bob Cousy Award, named after the Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard, celebrates its 23rd year by highlighting the top point guard in college basketball.
Anderson, a 6-foot-3 point guard, returns for his second season at Texas Tech after averaging 10.6 points, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.0 rebounds per game as a true freshman. He scored a career-high 22 points in an overtime win over Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and finished the season with four games scoring over 20 points. An Atlanta, Georgia native, he earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors last season and was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team leading into this year. Anderson was tied for the team lead last season with 71 made 3-pointers and led the team with 46 3-pointers in conference play. Among his freshman-season highlights, he had a career-best six assists in a win at Kansas and eight rebounds against Houston. He completed his first season at Tech with 372 points, 105 rebounds, 77 assists and 41 steals before representing Germany in the FIBA U19 World Cup where he averaged 17.3 points and 6.6 assists – earning All-Star Five honors and helping his team to a silver medal.
Along with Anderson, candidates on the Cousy Award Preseason Watch List are: Labaron Philon (Alabama), Darius Acuff (Arkansas), Tahaad Pettiford (Auburn), Robert Wright (BYU), Boogie Fland (Florida), Milos Uzan (Houston), Bennett Stirtz (Iowa), Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State), Darryn Peterson (Kansas), Jaland Lowe (Kentucky), Mikel Brown (Louisville), Elliot Cadeau (Michigan), Josh Hubbard (Mississippi State), Markus Burton (Notre Dame), Bruce Thornton (Ohio State), Braden Smith (Purdue), Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Tennessee), Donovan Dent (UCLA) and Silas Demary (UConn). Players can play their way onto and off the list at any point throughout the season.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, October 31. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2026 Bob Cousy Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just 5. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committee for the Bob Cousy Award are composed of top men's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2026 Cousy Award will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the four other members of the Men's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Julius Erving Award (Small Forward), Karl Malone Award (Power Forward), and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (Center).
