LUBBOCK, Texas - Cleveland Golf/Srixon has named Texas Tech golfer Chris Ward (McKinney, Texas) one of its All-American Scholars, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America this week. A total of 108 players from Division I institutions were honored.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships and maintain a stroke average of 76.0 or better in Division I.
Ward averaged 73.0 strokes per round for the Red Raiders during his junior campaign in 2008-09 and helped lead the program to its third NCAA Championships appearance in the last four seasons. He picked up his first collegiate win at the UTSA Intercollegiate in February. Ward is one of four players from the Big 12 Conference named an All-America Scholar and one of only two collegiate players from schools within the state of Texas selected.
Ward has had a busy summer playing in amateur tournaments across the country and he is currently preparing for the Texas State Open next weekend, July 16-19, at The Cascades in Tyler, Texas. The event is a stop on the Northern Texas Section of the PGA.
