Anderson named Big 12 Player of the Week

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech sophomore Christian Anderson has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week after averaging 26.0 points, 9.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in the first week of the season. The weekly conference award is the first in Anderson's career and follows him opening the season by going for 34 points and 11 assists in the season-opening win over Lindenwood. It was his first career double-double and the first in program history with a player scoring over 30 points and recording double-digit assists.
Anderson shares the first Big 12 Player of the Week honor with Arizona's Koa Peat who was also named the Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Anderson was also tabbed to the inaugural Big 12 Starting Five honor along with Peat, AJ Dybantsa (BYU), Bab Miller (Cincinnati) and Darryn Peterson (Kansas).
The Red Raiders are 2-0 on the season and play against No. 17 Illinois at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. Anderson is coming off a game against Sam Houston last Friday where he went for 18 points, seven assists and three steals in the second game of the season. An Atlanta, Georgia native, Anderson was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team and is on the Bob Cousy Award Preseason Watch List after earning All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors last season. Through two games, Anderson is 6-for-11 (54.5 percent) on 3-pointers after going 3-for-4 in the win over Sam Houston. He has now played in 37 games as a Red Raider and has 424 points, 95 assists, 114 rebounds and 48 steals in his career going into the matchup against the Fighting Illini.
